Dr. Harris Ngow Abdullah completed his undergraduate training at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sciences Malaysia, KubangKerian, Kelantan in 2000 and began his career by pursuing his housemanship training at Hospital Queen Elizabeth 1 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah in 2000. Upon completion of his compulsory housemanship training, he was posted to Hospital Kota Kinabatangan in Sabah as medical officer in 2001.He was then accepted as trainee lecturer in May 2003. He then enrolled into the Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) programme with the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) on the same a year, in June 2003. Following four gruelling but enlightening years, he was awarded with the Master of Medicine, M.Med (Internal Medicine) in June 2007. Over the next two years, he then divided his time between Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan where he practised as a general physician with an interest in Cardiology and Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia where he was undergoing training in interventional Cardiology under the capable mentoring of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oteh Maskon. He then proceeded to further his training in Interventional Cardiology at Institut Jantung Negara (National Heart Institute, Kuala Lumpur) under the tutelage of Dato’ Dr. Aizai Aizan in 2008. Throughout this time, Dr Harris dedicated his spare time to teaching undergraduate medicine and pursuing small scale research projects that managed to garner wide publication and academic visibility. His studies included multi-centred studies assessing the prevalence of hypertension control amongst hypertensive patients frequenting major hospitals and the efficacy of treatment response and success rates in dealing with acute myocardial infarction. The results of these studies and numerous case reports afforded publication in notable high-impact journals such as the Circulation, Hypertension Research, Journal of Hypertension and Annals of Emergency Medicine. He also managed to co-supervise the research projects and thesis publication of M.Med candidates within this busy but academically fulfilling time. He is also involved in the training of cardiology subspecialty candidates in the department since he was appointed as consultant cardiologist. In 2010, he obtained full registration as clinical cardiologist and he was registered as interventional cardiologist the following year. He began his work as consultant Cardiologist at the Cardiology department, Hospital Tengku ampuan Afzan in 2011. Following that, he pursued further peripheral interventional training under the tutelage of Dato Dr Rosli Mohd Ali and Dr Shaiful Azmi Yahya in Institut Jantung Negara. In 2013, he underwent his cardiac CT imaging fellowship with Dr Claudio Smuclovisky who was the founding member of the society of Caardiac CT imaging in Holy Cross Hospital, Fort Lauderdale, Florida,USA. Following that, he was awarded a level 2 competency from the Society of Cardiac Computed Tomography(SCCT) in 2013. He then pursued an International Interventional and Interventional Research Fellowship in Cardiac and peripheral intervention under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Seung-Woon Rha at the Korea University Medical Center, GURO Hospital, Seoul, South Korea. He practised as a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the Cardiology Department, Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan, Kuantan prior to his current appointment. Dr Harris had been admitted as a Fellow for the National Heart Association Malaysia(FNHAM) in 2011, Fellow, International Society of Holter and Noninvasive Electrocardiology (FISHNE) in 2012, Fellow for the Asia Pacific Society of Cardiac Intervention (FAPSIC) in 2015, Fellow for ASEAN Federation of Cardiology in 2016, Fellow the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions and Fellow the American College of Cardiology in 2020.
